Volunteer Makes Big Difference
NRC neighbor and Rocketts Landing resident Tom Tarkington said he has never been afraid of trying anything new. And for that we couldn’t be more grateful. When Tom first visited the Center during an open house he was so impressed with the people he met that he jumped in and became a valued volunteer. “I saw a tremendous need for tables in the soon-to-be-café and I knew that my woodworking skills could be put to good use. I started looking around for materials and found three old doors and two lovely table tops in a local dumpster.” Tom was amazed by what he found scouring for wood. Soon he was cutting, sanding, finishing beautiful, recycled tables. He’s already delivered three tables to the NRC, four are in production and another three will be delivered before the café opens. Made from birch, mahogany and oak, the eclectic collection of fine tables represents amazing and gifted craftsmanship as well as the generosity of a new friend and volunteer. Many thanks to Tom!

Tom,
This is a wonderful story. The history and development of the Rocketts Landing project represents the City well. Many of us nearby love to see the town develop, and relish every success story such as yours. From a fan of Richmond, thanks for helping the Fulton Hill community and all of your hard work!
