Richmondmom.com and HandsOn Greater Richmond, with the support of Puritan Cleaners, announce the Richmond Back-to-School Splash. We want to bring to the Richmond Community’s attention the splash kids can make volunteering and the ripple effect it has on our neighbors.

This exciting opportunity will enable kids to see the direct impact they can have on their community and will benefit the Neighborhood Resource Center.

Kids and their parents have the opportunity to:

1) School Supply Drive – kids can collect school supplies and drop them off at any Richmond-area Puritan Cleaners. Items will be donated to Neighborhood Resource Center;

2) School Supply Kit Preparation – On August 25, 2010 kids (and their parents) can help put together the supply, along with positive back-to-school messages inspired by Guerilla Goodness: Takin’ it to the Sidewalk (www.kindnessgirl.com/guerrilla-goodness) Sign up to volunteer at HandsOn Greater Richmond (www.handsongr.org)

“Parents are always looking for fun and free ideas for their kids” says Richmondmom.com CEO Kate Hall. “We’ve even launched a new series on our website this Summer on this topic because it’s become one of our most frequently-asked questions. We want to bring it to the Richmond Community’s attention that volunteering can start at any age and last a lifetime.”

Collection locations are at all Richmond-area Puritan Cleaners. Donations will be accepted from August 4 -18, 2010 which will also coincide with Puritan Cleaners “Free-Pants” Wednesday special (August 18, 2010) and take advantage of VA’s Tax-free Weekend (August 6 – 8, 2010).

Needed supplies are based on the Richmond Public Schools Supply list which can be found at http://newweb.richmond.k12.va.us/parents/supplies.aspx or at HandsOn Greater Richmond listings.
